EUGENE, Ore. – Portland-born artist Yvonne Stubbs is set to unveil her new exhibition, “Bloodlines: A Personal Journey Through Art, Memory and Heritage,” at the City Hall Gallery next week.
According to the exhibition description, Stubbs uses her art to weave personal and ancestral stories, focusing on the descendants of the Freedmen of the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations. Her work spans multiple mediums, including ceramics, paintings, and mixed media.
Stubbs, who holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Oregon, draws inspiration from her family history. Her mother survived the Vanport flood, and her grandparents were Black Freedmen with African and Native roots.
