Lost phone bags, theft and long lines: The first two days of the school cellphone ban

The first two days of the statewide cellphone ban have been fraught for some local schools.

Students have waited in long lines outside their building as school officials painstakingly check each student’s bag to ensure their devices are turned off and stowed out of sight.

In Albany, where the district started its ban earlier this year, students waited for 30 minutes outside two of the middle schools on the first day. At the high school, there are now two entrances to reduce the wait, but the line was still 10 minutes long. District officials reported shorter lines on the second day and hope that next week will be far smoother…
