ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)—After the Wildcat strike ended in March, the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision has been focusing on rebuilding staffing levels at state prisons.
Commissioner Daniel Martuscello said while staffing levels are still in crisis, there’s been improvement.
“We are seeing 160% increase of individuals taking the exam,” explained Martuscello. “So, I have just shy of 12,000 people that have completed the examination process and now how to go through pre-employment screening. As compared to last year actual hiring, we are up 62% this year as compared to last year, of people accepting appointment to the academy.”…
