Mesa Breaks Ground on New Fire Station to Bolster Emergency Response in Southeast Expansion

In an effort to keep up with the burgeoning growth of southeast Mesa, city officials have ceremoniously broken ground on a new fire station aimed to enhance emergency response capabilities in the region. MesaNow reports that Fire Station 224, located at 3441 S. 80th St., is a response to the projected uptick in emergency calls due to the area’s rapid expansion. “This fire station is more than a construction project; it is a promise to our community,” Mayor Mark Freeman told the publication, emphasizing the significance of the development borne from the 2022 Public Safety Bond approved by local voters.

The undertaking, which is budgeted at $12.3 million, is set to offer a range of facilities that include three apparatus bays, living quarters for the crew, and office spaces. The fire station is designed to not only accommodate the current demands but also adapt to eventually house multiple units, with Engine 224 and its four-person team slated to be the first occupants. The commitment to public safety by Mesa officials is clearly evidenced as they move to strategically place emergency services within the growing community, aiming to quickly reduce response times which, in turn, could likely improve resident outcomes.

According to the same MesaNow article, Fire and Medical Chief Mary Cameli expressed gratitude to citizens for providing the necessary resources to enhance the service level to the community through the new station.
