The votes are in! CLE Metroparks baby giraffe gets its name

CLEVELAND (WJW) – The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo’s newest four-legged resident officially has a name!

After the baby’s public debut and an official naming poll, the almost 1-month-old was named Zane.

Zane was born at the zoo around 8:30 a.m. on Friday, August 15, zoo officials confirmed. He was born to 14-year-old mom Tuli, who came to Cleveland from the Toledo Zoo last year. Tuli’s mother, Elvira, was born at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo in 2003.

The newborn’s father still resides in Toledo.

According to the zoo, the name Zane means ‘noble.’ It was selected through contributions to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation…
