Sacramento’s Persistent Fight Against Homelessness, Over 74,000 Pounds of Trash Cleared, 34 People Housed in Latest City Effort

The City of Sacramento continues to tackle the complexities of homelessness as depicted in their latest report, as made public this past week. According to Sacramento City Express, the period of August 25th through 31st saw 657 calls registered to 311 in relation to concerns surrounding unsheltered individuals.

Impressively, these calls resulted in the opening of 1,864 cases, indicative of the City’s more granular approach to monitoring and resolving incidents of homelessness—a new data category that started just over a month ago. Upon inspection by City staff, 2,002 cases were able to get closed, meaning the situations were either resolved or no longer applicable. Although having closed more cases than opened, the continued increase of case volume week over week suggests a relentless battle against the elements of homelessness.

Concurrent with case management, the outreach teams from the City’s Department of Community Response have substantively engaged with the local homeless population. As per the Sacramento City Express report, “staff from the City’s Department of Community Response enrolled 94 people into shared local databases that match them with shelters and other resources.” Efforts to provide shelter saw 34 individuals placed into housing options which include the City’s Roseville Road campus and the Outreach and Engagement Center…
