Hays stuns Derby with late touchdown to complete comeback

DERBY, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) – Hays senior quarterback Zane Viegra came up with the heroics on Friday, throwing a touchdown pass with five seconds remaining and followed with a 2-point conversion to lead his Indians team to a stunning 22-21 win over the Derby Panthers on Friday at Panthers Stadium.

With the Indians trailing 21-14, Viegra led the Indians to an 18-play 96 yard drive, capped off by junior running back Braxton Basgall catching a touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone. The Indians sealed the game when senior Parker McGuire skied to catch the 2-point conversion.

“Just resilient,” Hays head coach Tony Crough said. “We weren’t scared of the environment. That was a very good football team we played and we were just tough down the stretch and made plays when it counted.”…
