Mail theft in North Palm Beach leads to officer injury, high-speed chase

NORTH PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A mailbox theft in North Palm Beach left an officer dragged 20 feet, sparked a high-speed chase with flying mail, and saw one suspect escape until his delayed arrest.

Officers with the North Palm Beach Police Department (NPBPD) say that just before 4 a.m. on August 21, a motion camera on a light pole caught a man in an SUV, later identified as 22-year-old Sherard Hilaire, tampering with a USPS mail drop box on the 600 block of US Hwy 1 in North Palm Beach.

Police noted that the pole camera was installed in that specific parking lot to combat recent mail thefts, during which multiple checks were stolen…
