Battle of the bands: UCA and UAPB set for halftime showdown

CONWAY, Ark. (KATV) — As the University of Central Arkansas Bears prepare to face off against the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions, the real spectacle might just be the halftime show. Both universities’ marching bands are gearing up for a musical showdown that promises to be as thrilling as the game itself.

Dr. Derek Stoughton, director of the Bear Marching Band, said, “It’s just going to be a celebration of two very different styles of band coming together, and I think that’s awesome.” The UCA band, a 170-piece ensemble known for its drum corps style, is fresh off a performance at Mizzou and ready to showcase their talents on home turf.

Meanwhile, the UAPB’s Marching Musical Machine of the Mid-South, or M4, is equally excited. Dr. John Graham, head band director and UCA alumnus, said, “All I can say is, remember, we Lions, and so we gonna be on the prowl, and we gonna bring a very energetic show.” The 200-piece show style band recently participated in a battle of the bands with over nine other HBCU bands…
