Strong Thunderstorms Moving Toward Central New Mexico

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque issued a Special Weather Statement at 8:15 p.m. MDT on Saturday, September 6, 2025, as Doppler radar tracked a line of strong thunderstorms moving through central New Mexico.

At the time of the alert, storms extended from near Cochiti Pueblo to about 10 miles west of Paradise Hills, moving southeast at 25 mph. The primary hazard is wind gusts up to 50 mph.

Expected Impacts:

  • Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured outdoor objects.
  • Sudden weather changes may cause difficult driving conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles.

  • Albuquerque
  • Rio Rancho
  • Bernalillo
  • Corrales
  • Los Ranchos de Albuquerque
  • Santo Domingo Pueblo
  • Santa Ana Pueblo
  • Coronado State Monument
  • Sandia Pueblo
  • Enchanted Hills

Highways Affected:

  • Interstate 40 between mile markers 148 and 170
  • Highway 550 between mile markers 1 and 13
  • Interstate 25 between mile markers 216 and 269

Although this storm line is currently focused west and north of Torrance County, residents should remain alert. Storm activity moving southeast could bring gusty winds and hazardous travel conditions closer to the Estancia Valley and Mountainair later in the evening…
