Hoover honors lives lost on 9/11 with annual remembrance ceremony and stair climb tribute

HOOVER, Ala. (WBMA) — The city of Hoover held its annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony, emphasizing the message to “never forget” the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001. The ceremony served as a living tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice 24 years ago.

“This is not an event, this is a living tribute to 9/11,” said Noah Galloway, a retired combat veteran. “I was a student at UAB when 9/11 happened and that’s what drove me to wear the uniform and want to serve my country. I deployed to Iraq on two different appointments and lost my arm and leg, so I’m heavily tied into what happened on 9/11.”

Following the ceremony, participants engaged in a memorial stair climb, equivalent to 110 flights of stairs, symbolizing the heroic efforts of first responders who ascended the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers during the attacks. Some climbed the stairs of the Riverchase Galleria, bearing the weight of their gear and wearing photos of heroes who lost their lives that day…
