Charleston, SC Weather Alert: Evening T-Storms and Coastal Flooding Threat Through Tonight

Charleston, S.C. – Thunderstorms rolling into South Carolina this evening could bring flooding to Charleston Harbor as an unusually high tide peaks near 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Gusty winds, lightning, and heavy rainfall will make travel hazardous, with some storms potentially turning severe.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a weak cold front moving through late this afternoon is fueling the unsettled conditions. Storms will continue through tonight, raising the risk of minor to moderate coastal flooding around both the evening and morning high tides in the harbor.

Forecasters warn drivers to avoid downtown roadways prone to flooding, especially near the Battery and Lockwood Drive. Inland communities including Summerville, Mount Pleasant, and North Charleston should also prepare for heavy downpours and possible localized street flooding.
