Heavy Rain, Flood Risk For North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a forecast for North Florida predicting waves of heavy rain and thunderstorms over the next several days, with the greatest rainfall totals (2-3 inches or more) expected along the coast, potentially leading to flooding in urban and flood-prone locations.

According to NWS Jacksonville, strong storms are possible in the mid to late afternoon today. There are no active watches or warnings at this time, but heavy downpours on saturated ground may bring localized flood risks, especially in urban and poor drainage areas. Breezy northeast winds will continue, with gusts up to 20 mph today and higher on Monday.

Storms will continue to develop, with heavy downpours expected, bringing isolated flood risk through midweek.

Storms will be capable of producing:

  • Heavy downpours, which may lead to localized flooding, mainly in urban areas.
  • Wind gusts up to 20-28 mph.
  • Frequent lightning.
