Amarillo, TX Weather: Thunderstorm Risk, Hail Up to 1.5 Inches and Strong Winds Until 3AM Monday

Amarillo, Texas – Thunderstorms could roll across the Texas Panhandle late Sunday afternoon and persist into the overnight hours, bringing the risk of large hail and damaging winds. The most active storms are expected near Dalhart, Dumas, and Guymon between 5 and 10 p.m., with additional development closer to Amarillo from 8 p.m. through 3 a.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, storm coverage is expected to remain scattered, with only a 10% to 30% chance of development. However, any storm that forms could quickly intensify, producing hail up to the size of ping-pong balls and wind gusts near 60 mph.

Communities along I-40, including Vega and Amarillo, should be prepared for strong downpours, reduced visibility, and potential delays for drivers late Sunday night.
