AFL-CIO hosts Labor Pay picnic commemorating John Morrell strike

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The AFL-CIO hosted a Labor Day Picnic, commemorating the 90th anniversary of the John Morrell Strike in downtown Sioux Falls.

The AFL-CIO said the strike that took place between 1935 and 1937 established workplace self-determination for over 1,200 South Dakota families. Strike participants back then organized one of the country’s first sit-down strikes.

For those present at the picnic, they say people should be celebrating Labor Day every day…
