Man sentenced to prison, deportation after major fentanyl bust in Kanab

ST. GEORGE — A man indicted on a federal drug distribution charge in December has been sentenced to five years in federal prison.

Tomas Eduardo Ibarra, 28, of Taylorsville, was charged with possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute when he appeared for a sentencing hearing held Aug. 21 at U.S. District Court in St. George. Police said more than 22 pounds of suspected fentanyl was recovered from a vehicle in Kanab during Ibarra’s arrest.

The federal case was filed following a traffic stop on Dec. 8, 2024, when a Kane County sheriff’s deputy stopped a Ford Fusion on U.S. 89. A records check revealed Ibarra had an active warrant for his arrest…
