A conversation with the duo bringing MADE SOUTH Market to Alabama

MADE SOUTH Market is making its way to Birmingham this fall, bringing a curated celebration of Southern makers, artisans, and small businesses to Events at Haven on October 24th and 25th. Run by Chris and Katy Richardson , the market has built a loyal following in Franklin, Tennessee, where it has become a beloved tradition for discovering unique goods and connecting with the creative spirit of the South. Ahead of their Birmingham event, we sat down with the MADE SOUTH team to hear more about the vision behind the event, what makes it special, and why Birmingham was the natural next step.

What made you fall in love with MADE SOUTH Market in Franklin before bringing it to Birmingham?

We first experienced the MADE SOUTH Holiday Market in Franklin from the other side of the table—as makers. For six years, we set up our booth, told our story, and connected with other Southern makers. From the very beginning, the experience was different from any other market we’d been a part of. The way the guests valued the unique offerings, the thoughtful curation of the event, and the genuine hospitality from the organizers—it all created an incredible sense of community and appreciation. As makers, we felt celebrated. So when the opportunity came to jump into this business, it felt like a natural step. We knew firsthand how important MADE SOUTH could be for a small business, and we were excited to carry that forward and even expand it to other great Southern cities like Birmingham.
