Heartbreaking images have revealed how recent wildfires have unleashed devastation across California as experts sound the alarm over pollution levels while firefighters desperately continue to tackle blazes.
The Garnet Fire in Fresno, which was ignited by lightning on August 24, has exploded in size, raging over 46,450 acres. The blaze has left one California neighbourhood one of the most polluted towns on Earth currently, according to weather analyst Colin McCarthy.
“Wildfire smoke from the Garnet Fire has turned Mammoth Lakes, California, into one of the most polluted towns on the planet,” he wrote on X. “If exposed to the current air quality in Mammoth for 24 hours, it would be equivalent to smoking about 7 cigarettes,” McCarthy added…
