The legal battle against Enbridge’s Line 5 reroute proposal started back up with public hearings in Madison Sept. 2 and continued through Sept. 5.
The case centers on permits issued by the Department of Natural Resources, authorizing Enbridge, a Canadian oil company, to move forward with a 41-mile reroute of its oil and natural gas pipeline around the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa reservation.
Earth Justice, a nonprofit public interest organization, filed a petition challenging the DNR’s approval on behalf of the tribe. Environmental organizations Clean Wisconsin and Midwest Environmental Advocates filed petitions as well…
