SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Lane splitting and lane filtering have been banned in Springfield city limits since March. Still, a committee referral on the agenda for September 8 could prompt the council to consider revising those restrictions.
General Ordinance 6918 prohibits lane splitting and lane filtering by motorcycles, bicycles, and motorized devices. This committee referral, put forth by councilmember Bruce Adib-Yazdi at the request of citizens, would change the wording to continue the ban on lane splitting but keep lane filtering.
The difference lies in the speed and manner of movement. Lane splitting is typically the fast-moving motorcycles weaving between fast-moving traffic. Lane filtering, on the other hand, is when a motorcycle moves up between stopped or slow cars in traffic…
