Green Chile Cheeseburger Challenge kicks off at New Mexico State Fair

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — The Green Chile Cheeseburger Challenge is kicking off on Monday at the New Mexico State Fair, where restaurants will compete for the title of “Green Chile Cheeseburger Champion.”

Competitors will fire up their grill at about 11:30 a.m., with introductions and announcements being made around twenty minutes later. The contest kicks off at noon and the first burger will be presented for judging about 20 minutes later.

KRQE’s own Van Tate will be judging his favorite burger. Past winner, Isleta Grill, says the secret to a winning burger is to keep it simple. Here’s a list of this year’s competitors:

  • Sparky’s Burgers, BBQ & Espresso – Dona Ana County
  • Isleta Grill – Isleta Pueblo
  • Grill at the Monte Carlo – Taos County
  • Laguna Burger– Laguna Pueblo
