Eugene police arrest man after tense standoff at apartment

EUGENE, Ore. – A tense situation unfolded on Sunday evening when Eugene Police responded to a report of a man forcing his way into an apartment on East 18th Avenue, according to the Eugene Police Department.

EPD officials said they responded just before 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 7 to the incident in the 800 block of East 18th Avenue. The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Justin Anthony Williams, was reportedly previously involved with the female resident and was believed to be armed. Upon arrival, officers found the woman outside while yelling was heard from inside the apartment. Police said that the yelling stopped as officers approached the scene. Officers breached the front door and detained Williams. A search revealed a black spring-assisted knife, a firearm magazine, and a loose bullet on Williams, though no firearm was found…
