A celebration of life for Tutu Bert, co-founder of Oahu’s first homeless shelter

The community gathered to honor the life of Roberta DuTeil, lovingly known as Tutu Bert, at a celebration of her extraordinary contributions. DuTeil, along with her late husband Fr. Claude, initiated the Peanut Butter Ministry in the 1970s on Smith Street in Downtown Honolulu. The DuTeils expanded their mission by transforming the ministry into what is now known as the Institute for Human Services, opening Oahu’s first homeless shelter in 1986…
