(WJET/WFXP)– It’s been almost a week since the section of the Bayfront Parkway from Sassafras Street Ext. to Holland Street has closed, and PennDOT is reminding anyone walking in the area to use the crosswalks set up for pedestrians.
PennDOT officials stressed Monday that the Bayfront Parkway is closed to cars and pedestrians, specifically mentioning that there is no crossing at State Street and that following the detour set up around the area is for everyone’s safety.

The closed-off area of the road, which includes State Street from Second Street to East Front Street, has had a detour set up for pedestrians to get down to the waterfront using Third Street and Holland Street on the city side of the parkway, and East Front Street, using West Front Street Extension on the waterfront side and near the entrance to Erie Water Works just before the closure.
PennDOT said they made several improvements for pedestrians to have safe access to the waterfront ahead of the closure with temporary signals, speed humps, high visibility crosswalks and pedestrian flashing beacons.

“We are stressing to residents and visitors that there is no pedestrian access or crossing of the parkway at State Street,” said Dax Nulph, District 1 Assistant Executive – Construction. “For the safety of those walking between the city and the waterfront, it is important that everyone follows the detour signs, uses the marked crosswalks, and takes advantage of the signalized intersections.”…
