Jurors in wrongful-death trial watch Baldwin deputy fire fatal shots at driver after crash

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Lawyers for the family of a Louisiana man shot to death during an encounter with Baldwin County sheriff’s deputies eight years ago showed the shooting from two different vantage points Monday.

Jurors picked to assess Cpl. Matthew Hunady’s civil liability saw the lead-up to the shooting from his dash camera – right up to the moment when the officer fired four shots from his rifle. Then jurors watched the scene from the point of view of Hunady’s body camera.

Both sides at this week’s federal trial believe the video evidence will prove their case. Attorneys for Jonathan Victor’s estate note that he was unarmed that day in May 2017 when his vehicle crashed on Interstate 10 in Baldwin County, about seven miles west of the Florida line. They argue that Hunady violated Victor’s constitutional rights and acted unlawfully when he fired the shots…
