Short Hills, NJ, September 8, 2025– A shoplifting case from earlier this year has returned to the headlines this week after police body-camera footage of the incident was made public.
The video, released on YouTube by the channel GreatBodyCam, shows 55-year-old Yogini Varma of Randolph, New Jersey, being confronted by police outside the Mejuri store at Short Hills Mall on January 1, 2025. Varma was accused of concealing a $2,300 diamond tennis bracelet and other merchandise without paying.
In the footage, officers can be seen stopping Varma in her Tesla SUV after she left the store. When questioned, she initially denied stealing anything and even invited officers to search her belongings. However, police discovered clothing and accessories from Nordstrom, J.Crew, Macy’s, and Anthropologie, many still carrying security tags and price labels, but with no receipts…
