Wildwood officials are reporting discovery of a gas pump skimmer and urging motorists to use caution when fueling vehicles. The device was found last week and reported by an employee at 7-Eleven, 4076 E. County Road 462.
Skimmers closely resemble regular card reader slots and house electronics that gather credit card data for criminal use. They are placed over the legitimate reader and may be adhered with tape or another substrate.
“Criminals are becoming increasingly sophisticated and using technology that is more difficult to detect,” said Wildwood Police Chief Randall Parmer. “That’s why we continually update our scam prevention education and outreach efforts to help the public stay safe and avoid falling victim to these nefarious operations.”…
