Massive California brush fire burns down several homes, prompts evacuation order

A massive brush fire prompted evacuation orders in San Diego County on Monday, with multiple homes burned, and one person was injured, according to local fire officials.

According to Cal Fire, the blaze began just before 3 p.m. in Lakeside, California, near Interstate 8 and Los Coches Road. While the blaze, dubbed the Coches Fire, remained smaller than many recent wildfires in the Southern California area, but reportedly caught a number of homes on fire in the area. The fire was mapped at 5 acres and 5% contained as of 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Cal Fire reported that forward progress had been stopped and crews were working to extinguish the remaining blaze.

By Monday afternoon, all of the evacuation orders had been lifted, but many evacuation warnings remained in place for the surrounding area. A temporary evacuation site has been set up at Viejas Casino.

Authorities said that one person was injured during the fire and was taken to the hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time…
