Doña Ana County hosts community meetings regarding proposed Project Jupiter

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) — Doña Ana County officials are engaging with residents to discuss Project Jupiter, a proposed initiative that could bring four data centers to the Santa Teresa area.

The project, led by Borderplex Digital Assets, is under consideration for an industrial revenue bond that would exempt the company from paying taxes for the first 30 years.

According to Dona Ana County, an industrial revenue bond “is a common economic development tool used by states and local governments to attract businesses that will bring jobs to an area. There is no risk to the County. The participating companies fund the project. When a company gets an IRB approved, they won’t pay property taxes during the time the IRB is in place, but will almost always have to make ‘payment in lieu of taxes.'”…
