Landlords sue to end ban on source-of-income housing discrimination in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — A group of landlord agencies have sued the city of Lincoln in an attempt avoid accepting Section 8 vouchers.

Revolution Properties, LLC; Century Sales and Management, LLC; Property Management, Inc.; and Superior Place Apartments filed the lawsuit on Thursday. The agencies allege a voter-enacted ordinance violates the United States and Nebraska constitutions.

In May, Lincoln voters overwhelmingly approved a ban against income-based housing discrimination — effectively forcing landlords in Lincoln to accept Section 8 vouchers. Over 25,000 people voted for the measure, passing 66% to 34%. The ordinance has been in effect since June 14…
