Social Security Protesters Call Out Repercussions of Funding Cuts

The Social Security office located on Odana Road saw protests last Thursday, where representatives from state organizations and Social Security recipients alike organized to widen access to the federal program, as well as to object to staff cuts to federal offices. Passing drivers were able to catch a glimpse of signs such as “Protect Social Security” and “Save Social Security, It’s Our Money.”

Retirees like Anne McNeary who attended the protest, had a simple message to give to the Trump administration: “Save our Social Security.”

A fellow retiree, John Whalen, joined the protest to raise awareness of how Social Security benefits more than just individuals like himself. He says the federal program serves a wider purpose for those facing financial troubles because of unplanned circumstances, such as the death of a family member…
