ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Gallery space at the Albuquerque Convention Center now bears the name of a woman who left a mark on Albuquerque’s art scene. The city named the gallery after Clara Apodaca, who served as New Mexico’s First Lady from 1975 to 1979.

During that time, she launched programs that opened doors for artists, including establishing the governor’s gallery at the Roundhouse. Apodaca also oversaw the opening of the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. “I always felt that our culture and the arts should be available and accessible to all New Mexico students and people from across the country,” said Apodaca.
