DUI suspect refuses breath test after crash on Florida Turnpike in Sumter County

An Ocala woman was arrested for DUI after running across the road and hitting the median guardrail on the Florida Turnpike

A trooper reponded to a traffic crash with injuries involving 38-year-old Victoria Marie Windham at 10:30 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Florida Highway Patrol. Law enforcement found her 2020 Jeep Gladiator against the median guardrail at Mile Marker 298.7 on the Florida Turnpike. The victim’s 2014 Buick Enclave was on the grass shoulder.

A witness advised that they saw the Jeep run off the road to the right and then travel across the northbound lanes onto the grass median. The left front struck the median guardrail before stopping. Windham was the only person in the vehicle, and she was still in the driver’s seat when troopers got there, the report said.

The first trooper to speak to Windham could smell the slight odor of alcohol coming from her face and noticed she had watery eyes. He then asked her to participate in field sobriety exercises, during which she did not follow instructions. She later refused to take a breath test, the report said…
