(KRON) — Multiple rescuers were honored in Santa Clara County Monday for saving a child’s life in Gilroy earlier this summer.
On July 5, authorities received a 911 call for a child drowning in an unincorporated area of Gilroy. Before paramedics arrived at the scene, a good Samaritan was able to give the child “life-saving” CPR, according to the Santa Clara County Fire Department.

“As all made their way to the scene, Santa Clara County 911 Communications coached a bystander through life-saving CPR over the phone,” the Santa Clara County Fire Department said.
The child, Anthony Pettinari, was successfully revived and taken to a local hospital for treatment. Monday’s ceremony was held in honor of everyone involved in the rescue.

“Today, in recognition of their exceptional service and unwavering commitment, every member who contributed to the successful rescue operation received a letter of commendation,” the Santa Clara County Fire Department said. “Their rapid response, professionalism, and compassion turned what could have been a devastating tragedy into a story of hope and bravery.
