Investigation continues after body found in Elk River

ELKTON — A Maryland Natural Resources Police investigation continued on Tuesday, nearly two weeks after a man’s body was found floating in the Elk River near Elkton.

Investigators identified the victim as 27-year-old Qamar Dorzaser Muhammed, who lived in Elkton, according to Hunter Dortenzo, an NRP spokesman.

Dortenzo reported that a citizen contacted authorities at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Aug. 27 after discovering Muhammed’s body floating in the Upper Elk River near the mouth of the Big Elk Creek. Assisted by members of the North East Volunteer Fire Company, NRP officers recovered his body from the water, he said.
