Expansion is the name of the game for everyone in the barbecue business, unless you’re Franklin Barbecue. Every smokehouse in the Lone Star State is always looking for a newer, bigger home, or branching off into chains. Well, an award-winning barbecue joint that was recently named one of the 50 best in the state announced it is trading in its small town roots for big city dreams.
Yearby’s Barbecue & Waterice of Pilot Point — a town of less than 7,000 people — announced it is moving over 40 miles deeper into the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex as it opens a new home in Plano. Four years after opening and earning a spot on Texas Monthly’s Top 50 BBQ joints list, the family-owned smokehouse sent a heartfelt farewell to its small town home on August 31, its last day of business.
“As we close the doors to our little barbecue joint here in Pilot Point for the last time, we are filled with a deep, overwhelming sense of gratitude,” Yearby’s wrote on Facebook. “What began as a dream smoke, fire, flavor, and heart found its home in this incredible town, and that’s because of you. From the very beginning, you welcomed us with open arms, supported us through the highs and lows, and helped turn a small barbecue spot into a destination we never imagined possible. Whether you stood in line on a hot summer day, brought your family for a weekend meal, or simply spread the word about our food, you were the foundation of our journey.”…
