City of Amarillo talks 2025-2026 budget, tax rate increase, water projects, business agreements in Tuesday meeting

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Amarillo City Council is set to meet Tuesday to discuss multiple budget proposals, including for the city and the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation, as well as local water updates, job training programs and land sale agreements, among other items.

The regular city council meeting is expected to be held on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall, with sign-up for public comment available online here, by calling the City Secretary’s office at 806-378-3014 or in person at least 15 minutes before the scheduled meeting start time.

Discussion items listed in the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting include updates on the Amarillo EDC fiscal year 2025-2026 budget request, appointments for city boards and commissions, and an update from the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority, which is one of the city’s major water supply sources.

Consent items listed in the agenda include considering land acquisition and professional service contracts for the Lawrence Lake Drainage Improvements project, which will involve allowing for increased pumping of the lake to send stormwater to West Amarillo Creek and additional bank reinforcement and repairs.
