Mobile thrift store faces recurring donation theft issue

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Penelope’s Closet is dealing with a recurring issue: people rummaging through donated items left outside after business hours.

“Average 10 people a night,” Karen Robinson, store manager, said. “They just get out and help themselves. It’s a vicious cycle,” she continued.

Most recently, the camera captured a group on Sunday pulling up in a car and putting bags into their vehicle at 1 a.m. In the very back, one person was wearing a headlamp while digging through a dumpster.

Footage from this past weekend shows people going through the bags past midnight and even trying on clothes outside the store. In one video, a man shows up with a dolly and wheels away a TV.
