New Kensington Shooting, 17-Year-Old Suspect Charged, Victim Airlifted to Forbes Hospital

A shooting in New Kensington has left one person injured and a 17-year-old suspect in custody. According to a report made by TribLIVE, the incident erupted from an argument outside the Valley Royal Court apartment complex, around 12:35 p.m., leading to an area lockdown. Logan James King, the alleged shooter, now faces charges including attempted homicide and aggravated assault, local authorities said.

The situation escalated when King, after an altercation, fired a handgun multiple times at the victim, who sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and hip. The injured man was initially transported by a personal vehicle to a hospital, then airlifted to Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, according to Melanie Jones, spokesperson for the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office. Despite intensive police activity and a subsequent lockdown of nearby schools and a community college, the injuries were contained to this singular, albeit distressing event.

Following the shooting, King reportedly barricaded himself inside an apartment, prompting SWAT intervention. John Zavadak, the City Clerk of New Kensington, expressed to WTAE, “The SWAT team was here, cause the guy that actually got involved in the shooting went into one of the walk-up apartments at Valley Royal Court, barricaded himself in, and we had that big police presence.” King was eventually talked down and taken into custody without further incident…
