Mom And Popcorn: McKinney’s Sweet Spot For Nostalgia And Flavor

Walk into Mom and Popcorn on Louisiana Street in downtown McKinney and the first thing that hits you is the smell — fresh popcorn, still warm from the kettle. Then the colors catch your eye: tubs and barrels stacked with more than 50 rotating flavors, shelves lined with candy that feels like a time capsule, and bins of sweets you thought had disappeared decades ago.

For nearly 20 years, this small-town shop has been turning popcorn into an art form, blending family tradition, creativity and just the right amount of butter.

A Family Business With Big Output

The shop opened in 2006, but Seth Rodgers and his family took over in 2018. Rodgers heads up operation with his mom Wendy Rodgers, who also comes up with the shop’s  signature popcorn flavors. What customers see downtown — the storefront, the barrels, the samples — is only part of the story.

“People see the front of it, and they’re usually a little surprised if they ever find out that we go through a lot of popcorn in here,” Seth Rodgers tells Local Profile
