DA’s office behind withholding of Councilwoman Meza Gonzalez’s blood alcohol test

The Bexar County District Attorney’s Office is behind a state agency’s decision to withhold Councilwoman Ivalis Meza Gonzalez’s blood test results from the public following her arrest in July on a drunken driving charge.

The DA’s office said its Civil Division asked the Texas Department of Public Safety to seek a ruling from the state attorney general on whether it must disclose the results in response to a public records request from the San Antonio Express-News.

“When a case is pending, it is both standard practice and legally permissible to object to the public release of certain evidence to protect the integrity of an ongoing prosecution,” the DA’s office said in a statement…
