ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A popular brewery in northwest Albuquerque is picking up the pieces on Tuesday, after a thief broke into their business Monday morning.

Calavida Cantina, known for its mezcal and birria, is reopening on Tuesday following Monday’s closure, after an intruder caused thousands of dollars of damage and left the whole staff feeling shaken up. “To have someone come into a place that you’ve poured a lot of time, a lot of energy, effort, care, thought, and to just take things, destroy things, it’s really disheartening,” explained founder of Calavida Cantina, Martin Ulloa.
Around 3 o’clock Monday morning, a masked man forcibly entered the brewery, entering through an opening on the roof and disarming the security system. Over the course of three hours, he made off with money, liquor, and point-of-sale systems and even their registers, leaving the brewery without any way of processing payments. The thief left behind spoiled food and ingredients, broke doors, smashed liquor bottles, and stole expensive equipment from the manager’s office. Ulloa said they took Monday to process what happened, but on Tuesday, they were back on their feet. “For us, being open and engaging the community through business is important. For us, not opening for a couple more days is not an option. We’re going to continue to press forward and do our best.”…
