List of Colorado Safeway Store Closures Include Northern Colorado

Folks in Northern Colorado are going to feel the pinch of not having a couple of Safeways that have been around for decades.

Loveland and Fort Collins to See Closing of One Safeway Each

Having lived in both Fort Collins and Loveland in my lifetime, you can believe me when I say that the communities these two Safeways serve are going to be upset when they close down. It’ll be hard to see these big empty buildings that had served generations of shoppers.

According to KKTV, Safeway is shutting down twelve stores that are in the company’s “Mountain West” region as part of a “consolidation” after two areas merged. One is in Nebraska, another is in New Mexico, but the other 10 are in Colorado. Spending a lot of money with the failed merger with King Soopers probably didn’t help, either.

Which Northern Colorado Safeways Are Closing?

According to KKTV, by the time November 8, 2025, comes around, the Downtown Safeway in Loveland and the Safeway at Horsetooth and College will be closed for good.

I currently live in Downtown Loveland and hit up that Safeway at least once a week. It was just in the summer of 2022 that Safeway updated that Downtown store; but that doesn’t matter when it comes to the “bottom line” I suppose.
