HONOLULU (Island News) — Honolulu city crews and police cleared a homeless encampment along Piʻikoi Street early Tuesday morning, removing tents, shopping carts and other personal items from the sidewalks.
The city said the goal is to keep streets safe and accessible, though some people experiencing homelessness have already returned to the area.
“A lot of people like to refer to them as sweeps, but we like to call them outreach enforcement operations,” said Acting Major Henry Roberts of the Honolulu Police Department.
