Asheville City Council to accept largest loan yet for Helene recovery

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — The Asheville City Council is set to officially accept the city’s largest loan to help offset Hurricane Helene costs.

The state loan of $12 million will bring the city’s total to more than $16 million from a General Assembly Cash Flow loan fund.

Many municipalities and counties are having to use the fund to cover costs incurred in Helene recovery efforts. Yancey County officials have had FEMA applications in for reimbursements for nearly a year and continue to wait for the bulk of reimbursements to come through…
