A Sand Point boat captain is facing multiple charges following an officer-involved shooting last week.
42-year-old Duke Ogata was arrested on Wednesday at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and remanded to the Anchorage Correctional Complex. He faces charges including Assault in the Third Degree and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance.
The incident began on September 1st, when Sand Point Police were monitoring a docked, unoccupied fishing vessel connected to an ongoing drug trafficking investigation. Ogata attempted to flee the vessel and, according to authorities, brandished a hatchet as officers boarded to stop him. A Sand Point Police officer fired at Ogata, striking him.
