STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Some New York City residents should be on the lookout for emergency test alerts Thursday, the Department of Emergency Management announced Wednesday.
The 12 p.m. alerts to New Yorkers across the five boroughs will serve as a test of the city’s Wireless Emergency Alert system, which people can access on an opt-in basis. Thursday’s messages will be marked clearly as tests.
“Wireless Emergency Alerts save lives, but they only work if your phone is ready,” said Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol. “We urge every New Yorker to take one minute now to opt-in and confirm their device is prepared. This simple step is critical to ensuring you receive the messages that can protect you and your family when it matters most.”…
