ADAMS, Tenn. — Nestled along the Red River in Robertson County lies the historic, yet often forgotten, land that was once known as the town of Port Royal.
That was until 1978, when Tennessee State Parks took the reins and created the Port Royal Historic State Park to preserve and protect one of Middle Tennessee’s earliest communities.
“You can feel history here,” said Chad Burgess, a park ranger at Port Royal Historic State Park. “It’s almost a tiny microcosm of the United States. Everything that happens outside of this town also happened here.”
