Evacuation lifted as crews reopen South College Road after gas leak

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Crews are reopening South College Road after a gas leak caused evacuations and shut down the roadway, according to the Wilmington Fire Department (WFD).

According to a spokesperson for WFD, a construction crew struck a line while digging in front of the AT&T store on College Road just before 3 p.m.

WFD reports that South College Road was closed in both directions, and businesses between New Centre Drive and Randall Parkway along College Road were evacuated…
