LUBBOCK, Texas– Two concussions in less than a month left Lubbock teen Ellie Altman battling seizures that nearly took her life. Now, she’s nine months seizure-free, thanks to a treatment that retrained her brain instead of relying on medication.

Altman, now 18 and a freshman at Texas Tech University, suffered her first concussion during a volleyball game in October 2023.
“I ended up diving into a cinderblock wall and going headfirst into it,” Altman said. “I went limp for about maybe three seconds if even, and I just got back up and started playing until about second set after that I couldn’t see anymore.”
